Ever wondered where your websites visitors are from?

Wonder no more. The Open GeoIP Project aims to provide a fully open database of IP-ranges and their physical locations licensed under a Creative Commons license.

This information can for example be used to provide your website in the language of the visitor, to keep statistics of what countries buy the most green sweaters from your e-commerce site, or for a thousand and one other purposes.

What is the Open GeoIP Project?

The Open GeoIP Project was spawned from the facts that there are no official reliable project to provide a community maintaned free GeoIP dataset. We aim to change this by giving You all the tools needed to use up-to-date GeoIP data on your website.

The Open GeoIP Project is not a website to perform GeoIP queries, nor will we ever provide any APIs to do so. We do however give you APIs to download as well as contribute information to the dataset.

How do I use it?

We offer an API to allow you to easily retrieve updates from our database. There is also an API to help you contribute corrections to the database. This allows you to help make the database grow, as well as always keeping up to date with the current dataset.

If you don't want to write your own functions to work with the API, we will also offer libraries for various languages.
